Health Studies Degrees

Health studies explores the environmental and organizational factors that affect the health of populations. This field relies on the subjects of biostatistics, epidemiology, genetics, psychology, sociology, and economics.

Graduates have multiple career options. Graduates might work in health organizations, wellness centers, universities, and local, state, and federal government. The degree is broad in scope, which prepares graduates for a variety of healthcare related jobs. The programs also provide an excellent baseline in science and technology that can be leveraged towards acceptance in such specialty programs as dentistry, podiatry, medicine, biology, and chemistry. Graduates work in such jobs as office manager, aerobics coordinator, corporate fitness and safety consultant, community health education coordinator, or fitness center director. They also work in ambulatory healthcare centers, health practitioners’ offices, hospitals, clinics, laboratories, and non-profit organizations.

Most typical health studies degree programs are offered at the bachelor’s level. The student has numerous concentrations to choose from, including child development, psychology, wellness, health management, cultural diversity, and health communication. Prerequisites for these programs normally include a high school diploma, letters of support, a personal statement, and internship or volunteer experience.
